  • Isaiah 30

    Shalom

    I would like very much to get your takes on Isaiah 30

    Question: Were the Bene Yisrael held in captivity in Egypt once or more than once?

    Does this Chapter of Isaiah say that it was their plan not His for them to even go to Egypt?

    Does it say that because they went to Egypt for food and care that they were relying on Egypt rather than YHWH?

    Was Joseph being sold into slavery YHWH's plan or was that just the jealousy and hatred of his brothers being put into action?

    These are serious questions and I would appreciate answers.

    Thank you,
    Sis YahChannah of QB

    May our Father bless your coming in and your going out...forevermore.

    Hello YahChannah
    Sorry to see that no one has responded to your post. I do not know if I can answer all your questions, but I will make an attempt to explain how I personally see it.

    You asked:
    Were the Bene Yisrael held in captivity in Egypt once or more than once?

    Does this Chapter of Isaiah say that it was their plan not His for them to even go to Egypt?
    I see it as his plan and more than once.
    • Genesis 15
      13) And he said to Abram, You must surely know your seed shall be a sojourner in a land not theirs; and they shall serve them and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
      14) And I also will judge that nation whom they shall serve, and afterward they shalll come out with great substance.
      15) And you shall come to your fathers in peace. You shall be buried in a good old age.
      16) And in the fourth generation they shall come here again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
    You asked:
    Does it say that because they went to Egypt for food and care that they were relying on Egypt rather than YHWH?

    Was Joseph being sold into slavery YHWH's plan or was that just the jealousy and hatred of his brothers being put into action?
    Isaiah 30 is not speaking of things concerning Joseph or the time they went to Egypt during the famine.
    • Isaiah 30
      1) Woe rebellious children declares YHUH, to make counsel, but not from me and to weave a web but not by my spirit in order to add sin on sin;
      2) Who set out to go down to Egypt, but have not asked at my mouth, to take refuge in the stronghold of Pharaoh and to trust in the shadow of Egypt.
      3) And the stronghold of Pharaoh shall be shame to you and relying on the shadow of Egypt shall be a disgrace.
    Notice the above verses indicate future not past.
    • Isaiah 30:9
      This is a rebellious people, lying children; children who are not willing to hear the TORAH/INSTRUCTION of YHUH;
    Notice it indicates that YHUH had been made known to them and they had received his torah/instructions, which they did not have until the exodus.
