The scriptures has a lot of examples, and a lot to say about the sin of lying and slandering others.

If you read in 2 Samuel chapter 10 this whole war and the slaughtering of people was started over lying and slandering David, and David was merely showing kindness and respect to Hanun the son of Nahash the king of the children of Ammon.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it? 2 Samuel 10:1-3

This entire war was caused by lying and slandering David.

And of course there is Jezebel, and her cohorts lying and slandering Naboth to get him murdered to get his vineyard 1 Kings 21.

Elohim hates slander Proverbs 6:16, 19. It is evil, and Paul lists it as a behavior of those who hate Elohim Romans 1:30, and why James calls it demonic behavior James 3:15–16.

Messiah Himself talks about the things that defile a person, and lying and slandering is one of them, and it is called a false witness.

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the person.

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matthew 15:18-19.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. Proverbs 14:5.

A person that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow. Proverbs 25:18.

In other words, a lying slanderer murder people with their words.

This very term slanderer is also the very meaning of the devil's name.

In John chapter 8 is a revealing characteristic about the devil and his children.

First notice that John writes this:

John 8:30: As he spake these words, many believed on him.

These people BELIEVED or had FAITH in Messiah, and millions believe in Him today, but they will NOT obey and continue in His words.

John 8:31: Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,

If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed;

John 8:37: I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

These people that BELIEVED or had FAITH in Him, claimed Abraham as their father, and they SOUGHT TO KILL Him Messiah, because Messiah's words has no place in them.

John 8:40: But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

John 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

These people that BELIEVED or had FAITH in Him, claimed Abraham as their father, and they SOUGHT TO KILL Him Messiah, because Messiah's words has no place in them, and Messiah said, the devil was their father.
